New tar surface
Active Image

Thanks to a generous donation received from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, the Institute was able to repair, level and reseal our tar surface.  Prominent yellow lines were painted along the routes that our visually impaired persons follow on the premises.  We appreciate the NLDTF gesture to assist in improving the general welfare of our residents.

Cape Argus Cycle Tour with tandem
Active Image   The 35 year old blind Jasper Steenkamp, an employee at the Institute for the Blind, participated in the Pick 'n Pay / Cape Argus Cycle Tour with his tandem bicycle team-mate, Koos Fourie.  Over a distance of 109km Jasper and Koos completed the race in 3:33.54 .  Out of the 29 000 participants that completed the race, Jasper and Koos ended up number 7508.  What makes their achievement even more outstanding is the fact that the two of them never had the opportunity to practice together for the race beforehand and that Jasper had to rely on his exercise bicycle at home to stay fit while Koos practised alone in Kraaifontein.
